Who can take the CELPIP Test?

The CELPIP is a general English language proficiency test taken by aspirants applying for Canada PR under the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC) Start-up Visa Program, Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and other Regional Nominee Programs. CELPIP Types 

IRCC organizes two types of tests in CELPIP. 

CELPIP – General: This is for Canadian permanent residence applications and professional designations. The duration of the test is 3 hours.

CELPIP – General LS: This is for Canadian citizenship applications and professional designation. The duration of the test is 1-hour.

What is the CELPIP Syllabus?

The CELPIP is a general English-speaking test that has no fixed syllabus. Most of the questions are based on real-life instances. The test mainly contains four sections, as other English language tests. The sections include,

Unscored Items

The Listening and Reading Tests contain unscored items used for test development. These unscored items can be found anywhere within the Listening and Reading Tests and will have the same format as the scored items. You will not be able to tell scored items from unscored items, so apply your best effort to the entire test.

CELPIP Validity

The validity period of CELPIP results in 24 months from the test date. Various institutions determine the result validity. As per the IRCC, CELPIP results are valid for 2 years from the date of issue of results.

CELPIP Eligibility

CELPIP Exam Fee

The cost may differ based on the CELPIP exam center once you check the official website to confirm the fee before you pay it.
 

How are CELPIP reading and writing scores determined?

To ensure accuracy, multiple evaluators check the performance of every individual test taker. Every person’s speaking evaluation on the CELPIP exam includes a minimum of three categories from independent evaluators who have no knowledge of other category scores; in the same way, the writing exam involves at least four neutral evaluators. Together, all the evaluators provide a detailed presentation of a candidate’s abilities in both spoken and written English language proficiency.

To receive a physical copy of the official score result, you should pay an additional fee through your CELPIP Account. Frequently Asked Questions

There is no pass mark for the CELPIP test. It would help if you scored between 0 and 12 as per the English language requirements specific to the organization/institution.

The CELPIP score ranges from 1 to 12 for each section; the CELPIP scores calibrate the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels. At the same time, the IELTS score ranges from 1 to 9 for each section (write, read, listen, and speak sections).

The CELPIP and IELTS exams require highly skilled teachers to train in all the concepts. The band score varies for both exams and similarly, the assessment criteria are also different for both exams. There is no comparison between the exams, and we cannot define whether IELTS or CELPIP is easy.

The CELPIP score is valid for 12 months for the express entry profile. Your language test results must also be valid during the same period. If the validity is completed, you are supposed to re-take the exam and update the new result/score with your Express Entry profile.

No, you cannot appear for CELPIP remotely. As it is a computer-delivered test, you must appear for the test from the designated test centers.

The CELPIP: General is used to assess the English language skills of competitors in speaking, reading, listening, and writing sections. The test is officially designed for aspirants applying for Canada permanent residence and citizenship. The test results are also accepted for various professional designations.
